Real-time statistics and network availability from
any Web browser.
Orion
is a comprehensive fault and performance management platform that scales with
the exponential growth of your network and expands with your network
management needs. Providing extensive visibility into the health of network
devices, servers, and applications, Orion ensures that you have the real-time
information you need to keep your systems running at peak performance all the
time. Orion also measures performance SLAs for key services across the network
infrastructure, so that you can hold service providers to their promises.
Plus, it doesn't take a team of consultants and months of unpleasant surprises
to get Orion up and running. Orion can be installed and collecting data in
literally minutes.
Via a cutting-edge, customizable Web console, Orion gives you a unified view
into the performance of thousands of nodes and interfaces on your network,
serving up detailed metrics like availability, bandwidth utilization, and
interface traffic for routers, switches, servers, and any other SNMP-enabled
devices. You can drill down to see exactly what's happening with each and
every system on the global network and get the data you need to quickly
isolate, diagnose, and resolve problems.
Orion highlights include:
* Monitors and analyzes real-time, in-depth network performance metrics for
routers, switches, servers, and any other SNMP-enabled devices, with support
for custom MIBs
* Provides a highly customizable, sophisticated Web interface that supports
multiple views by user and department, as well as cutting-edge map views of
your global network
* Enables advanced alerting for correlated events, sustained conditions, and
complex combinations of device states
* Scales to accommodate growth and management needs with a hot standby engine,
multiple polling engines, and additional Web server interfaces
* Extends management capabilities to NetFlow traffic analysis and monitoring
of VoIP performance, wireless devices, applications and server health with
plug-and-play modules
Orion Network Performance Monitor offers several benefits to
users that conventional network monitoring platforms do not:
 | Quick implementation time - |
 | Low operational cost - Orion runs on Windows servers.
These systems are significantly less expensive to operate and maintain than
legacy Unix systems. |
 | Ease of use and reliability - Orion is a proven product
designed by network engineers for network engineers. The intuitive user
interface and wizard-based setup doesn't require costly installation,
training and configuration fees. |
 | Scalability - Orion can scale by simply adding polling
engines that share a common Open SQL database and user interface. Whether
your network is 50 devices or 10,000 devices, Orion is able to support your
environment without major configuration changes. |
 | Automation - Orion automates several mundane network
tasks, such as nightly backups, saving network engineers significant amounts
of time. |
Easy Install Network management
Orion is very easy to install and
can usually be installed and
collecting data within an hour. Many conventional NMS systems
take weeks to just deploy basic monitoring, reporting and alerting.
Unlike other management tools you won't find yourself having to pay out for
expensive consultants and services to get it up and running,

Fault Management & Availability Tools
View
the status of thousands of nodes and interfaces from a single Web page. Select
between up/down, bandwidth utilization, interface traffic, errors and discards
and signal-to-noise ratio (for broadband networks). Every element is "hot"
allowing an immediate viewing of the alert and to drill into the router,
switch, or server in question.

Custom MIB Support
Customers
can create a custom poller to monitor any SNMP-enabled device value that has a
MIB, which amounts to virtually any statistic that a network device records.
Examples of custom MIB monitoring include monitoring temperature on a switch,
fan speed on a router, and battery status on a UPS.
CPU, Memory and Disk Space Monitoring
Monitor
and set alerts on the CPU load and memory utilization of your Cisco, Foundry,
Extreme, Motorola, ARRIS, Linux, Solaris, HPUX, AIX, Windows 2000, Windows
2003, and Win XP devices. Monitor the disk space utilization for Windows
2000, Windows 2003, Win XP, Sun, Novell, and other devices that support the
host resource MIB. Summary screen identifies the Top 10 CPU load and memory
utilization issues in your network.

SNMP Compatibility
Orion
allows more secure polling of SNMP values from any device that supports SNMP
v3. Orion can also receive SNMP traps, which are specially-configured
notifications sent by network devices when unusual events are detected on that
node.
Syslog Viewer
The
Orion Syslog Viewer allows the Network Performance Monitor to receive and
process syslog messages from any type of device. Syslog messages are real-time
messages that network devices generate to notify about a specific event within
the device. Now you can receive, filter, view, alert and manage all syslog
messages from a single console, or even remotely, from the Web interface.

Network Maps
Import
any map from an existing network diagram, topology map or even a map of the
world. The Map Maker can import a map and make it "hot" by dragging nodes onto
it. When the map is saved, it is immediately updated with the current status
of the added nodes. Map Maker allows grouping of a network into regions,
districts, sub-networks and unique locations.

Sophisticated Alerting
With
Orion you can specify what kind of alerts they want to receive and set
thresholds for alerting on up/down percent of bandwidth utilized, memory
utilized, CPU utilized, disk space utilized and much more. There are hundreds
of possible configurations and parameters for alerting and reporting. Orion
will send e-mail to any compatible device, including cell phones.

Fully Customizable Web Views
User
views can be customized with a unique filtered view and a unique toolbar.
Select predefined views or create your own new views of your network. Pages
can be customized with individual corporate styles.

Open
Architecture
Orion
uses an open SQL Server database, Windows-based polling engines and an
interactive, customizable web interface for viewing the network status and
statistics. Orion uses industry-standard MIBs and protocols to monitor the
network and does not require the use of remote probes or agents.
Custom Accounts by User
Define
a general log-on for each department or create unique accounts for each
individual customer. One account could view all servers, another all routers,
while a customer account could have access to view a single interface. Each
account can have its own page layout, content and customized toolbar. Orion is
ideal for a consultant or service provider with numerous customers. View

Advanced Reporting Engine
The
report creation utility is simple to use and walks through the process of
either using an existing report or creating a custom report. The Report Writer
is great for documenting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for availability and
response time. Orion reports are not only viewable from the Web but are also
"clickable" allowing a drill down into the current network status. View

Custom Property Editor
The
Custom Property Editor allows you to either select from a predefined list of
properties or create you own unique field. Custom properties may be associated
with either a node or an interface. It can include everything from an asset
tag number to a carrier's circuit number.

Custom HTML Resources
Orion
provides the ability to detach a monitored view (e.g. current bandwidth) and
link to an existing HTML Web page. For example, you may add a current support
entry form or the customers payment history to any Orion Web page.

Account
Limitation Builder
The
Orion Account Limitation Builder application allows you to create and
customize limitations so that a user views only the nodes, interfaces and/or
volumes that you authorize. Account limitations can be based on custom
properties such as customer account number or region.
Integrations & Extensibility
Orion's Web interface is built for easy customization and
includes methods for integrating third-party application data or for
referencing Orion's data from within other Websites via the fully programmable
Web API. The Orion platform also integrates with Engineer’s Toolset and all
of the Orion Modules.
