ipPulse™
is a Remote Status Monitoring Tool. Use ipPulse to monitor the up/down status of IP connected devices (nodes) on any IP connected network. ipPulse uses a variety of methods, including ping, tcp connects, and SNMP to poll and check the network connectivity of a list of user-defined nodes. ipPulse alerts you to failures using a variety of techniques ranging from audible messages to email and pager notification. You can even control ipPulse remotely by logging into Remote Control using any Telnet application.

In contrast to a general utility like NetScanTools, ipPulse is envisioned run unattended on a single workstation. This workstation would monitor the health of the other computers that you have specified.

ipPulse is a new product that draws on our extensive experience working with NetScanTools. Portions of the code are drawn directly from NetScanTools. The SNMP section is proven technology based on mature source code and for our pager interface we have licensed PowerPage32 from Tanner & Associates. ipPulse uses reliable, proven technology based on our other software products.

Features

bulletSupports a large list of hosts entered as either hostnames or IP addresses. The list can be imported from a text file.
bulletPolls the list on a cyclical basis with full control over the list cycle timing parameters.
bulletSupports a primary and secondary test.
bulletSupports standard Ping ICMP Echo Requests/Replies and automatically uses UDP High Port
bulletPing under Winsock 2 for failed contacts. Primary test only.
bulletTCP Port numbers for TCP connect tests are assignable on a per-node basis. Primary or secondary test.
bulletOptionally uses SNMP v1 as a secondary test by requesting MIB2 OID interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOperStatus for every interface found on the target node.
bulletCommunity names are assignable on a per-node basis.
bulletOptional SNMP queries can be made for obtaining more extensive data from the target host.
bulletipPulse includes a number of OID presets and 8 user defined OIDs. Example: you can obtain
bulletMAC addresses for every interface from an SNMP enabled host.
bulletMultiple alerts and logging. Alert options include beeping your computer, playing a wave file, notifying someone by email, or paging someone using either standard numeric or TAP compatible alphanumeric pagers. Logging options include logging all test results to a text file, logging only errors to a text file, or logging errors to a dynamically created HTML page. Any combination of logging options can be used.
bulletRemote Control allows you to view log files and start, pause or stop a scanning cycle.
bulletRemote Control is password protected and can reside on any port. It can be disabled.
bulletAssignable application process priority.
bulletMultithreaded for responsiveness.
bulletModularized for easy upgrading through the internet.
bulletAll documentation is contained in a standard help file and in HTML help files.
bulletRequires TCP/IP on Windows NT 4, Server or Workstation; Windows 98. Due to the requirement for Winsock 2, Windows 95 is not supported unless you have the winsock 2 upgrade installed.
bulletRequires 1024 x 768 display.
bulletPager notification requires a modem and phone line separate from the network connection.
bulletLicensed on a single cpu basis. You can monitor an unlimited amount of nodes (within technical limitations of the program) from your licensed copy.
bulletY2K Compliant. 4 digit years are used for display and logging purposes only. No date calculations.

Note: ipPulse is not a replacement for NetScanTools, it is a new product with different design goals.
